Tulang Rahang & TMJ

  • Temporomandibular Joint

Synovial joint=joint within a joint capsule that moves freely

Anterior to the ear and at the posterior superior end of the jaw

    • Lips closed
    • Teeth several millimeters apart
    • Tongue just behind front teeth
    • Condyle in mandibular fossa

  • Kavitas

  • Komponen Aktif

  • Komponen Pasif

    • Condyle Mandibula

      • capitulum mandibulae
      • collum mandibulae
    • Mandibularfossa/ meniscus

    • Articulare Disc→

Fibrous disc between temporal bone and condyle acting like a condyle capDivides compartments (upper/lower)

Deformable pad so forces are distributed for protection fo articular surfaces

    • Capsula Articularis

    • Retrodiscal tissue

Loose connective tissue between the bilaminar zone that is rich in blood supply, nerves, and compressible

    • Ligament

Joins the mandible to cranium3 paired ligaments, *Act as passive restraining device to limit and restrict movements of the condyle and disc.

    • Temporomandibular ligament

→ lateral of the capsule, Prevents mandibular retraction

      *Outer oblique (Resists mouth dropping)

*Inner horizontal(prevents posterior movement of condyle into glenoid fossa)

    • Sphenomandibular ligament

      *Medial to TMJ

*Runs from sphenoid spine to lingula of mandible

      *Separates parotid from submandibular

*Landmark for admin of inferior alveolar block

    • Stylomandibular ligament

      • Posterior aspect/angle mandible

*Originates from styloid process (Temporal bone)

*Inserts in the angle of the mandible

=Both become accentuated and taut when mandible is protruded

      *Collateral ligaments → articular disc

  • Sensory innervation

(Mandibular nerve (CN V3)) percabangan trigeminal nerve

    Branches of ECA

    • Maxillary

    • Superficial temporal

  • Posterior Blood supply of TMJ

    *Superficial temporal artery

  • Anterior Blood supply of TMJ

    *Middle meningeal artery

  • Inferior Blood supply of TMJ

    (Internal maxillary artery

  • Other blood supply to the TMJ

    Deep auricularAnterior tympanic*Ascending pharyngeal

    Superficial temporal vein
